When a Painting Becomes Something More

There are moments in an artist’s practice when a collection begins to ask for more space.

Wellness Whispers began as a collection of abstract paintings accompanied by poetry — an exploration of emotion, renewal and the quieter inner landscape of becoming. Each painting is paired with words, allowing image and poetry to become two expressions of the same feeling.

Over time, I began to wonder what might happen if this language could move beyond the canvas.

This October, Wellness Whispers will be presented as a complete collection at MIRA Gallery, alongside the first release of Quiet Vessels — a series of intimate sculptural works that has evolved naturally from the collection.

Quiet Vessels

Quiet Vessels explores the idea of holding emotion in physical form.

At approximately 20 cm, each vessel is deliberately intimate — a small pool of emotion, where colour, light and feeling can settle and remain.

Like the paintings, the vessels are not intended to be simply observed. They invite a slower encounter: a moment of pause, reflection and quiet.

For me, they extend the poetic language of Wellness Whispers beyond the canvas. The paintings give emotion colour, movement and gesture; the vessels allow it to take on another kind of physical presence.

The first release will be intentionally small, with only a few vessels presented alongside the complete collection this October.

It feels less like the beginning of a separate body of work and more like the collection revealing another layer of itself.

What is already forming

While Wellness Whispers approaches its full expression, another collection is quietly taking shape in the studio.

Embers of Love, my 2026–27 poetic collection, is developing through paintings accompanied by poetry, together with a series of small sculptural works titled Held Embers.

This new body of work turns towards another emotional landscape — what remains after a moment has passed; what we remember, what we carry, and what continues to glow quietly within us.

Held Embers will incorporate 24k genuine gold leaf and black spinel, bringing together luminosity and depth in small, intimate forms.

The collection is still unfolding, and I am allowing it the time to find its own language. I hope to share its first presentation in 2027.

For now, it remains where many of my works begin — quietly, in the studio.

A season of becoming

This October marks an important moment for Wellness Whispers: the complete collection of paintings and poetry will come together with the first Quiet Vessels, creating a fuller expression of a body of work that began on the canvas.

Perhaps this is how a collection evolves.

Not by leaving its original language behind, but by listening closely enough to discover what it wants to become next.

This spring, I look forward to sharing that next layer with you.

Also at MIRA

Alongside my own practice, MIRA Gallery is beginning to introduce a small number of carefully selected artists whose work resonates with its broader dialogue around art, emotion and inspiration.

This September, I am pleased to introduce Mr HE, whose work explores identity, origin and the unseen forces that shape who we become.

His first presentation with MIRA is quietly taking shape, with selected works to be introduced soon.

More will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Art is not only something we see.

It is something we feel.
