Janet Besançon
Abstract Artist|Organic Colours & Human Connection
“Through my art, I seek to offer a quiet but resonant call for unity, for reverence, and for deeper connection in a time that so urgently needs it.”
– Janet Besançon
About the Artist
Janet Besançon is a French–Australian artist who has been painting and drawing for decades. Her work is rooted in a deep intention: to explore the connection between all living beings and nurture a respectful relationship with our planet.
Janet is using only natural pigments — some collected and imported from France and exceptional sites across Europe, others gathered on Gumbaynggirr Country, on Australia’s east coast. She dry-grinds and mixes these pigments to create unique colours that symbolically unite lands and continents — a deliberate gesture toward planetary connection, extending beyond humans to embrace all forms of life.
janet’s practice is grounded in respect for Indigenous cultures. Over the years, she has nurtured sincere relationships with several groups of Indigenous women from Gumbaynggirr Country. Before using pigments sourced from their land, she sought their permission and received enthusiastic and ongoing support from these women, who recognised and valued her approach.
