About the Artist

Vjekoslav Nemeš (Nemesh) was born in 1963 in Petrovaradin, former Yugoslavia (now Serbia). A gifted artist from early childhood, Nemesh transitioned from comic-style drawings to oil painting in his early twenties after a commission that changed the course of his life.

After receiving several local art awards, he began exhibiting widely across the former Yugoslavia. Despite the challenges of the Yugoslav Civil War, he continued to build a strong artistic reputation. In 1993, he relocated to New Zealand, re-starting his life and career.

Nemesh’s journey led him to become one of New Zealand’s most recognisable abstract and visionary artists. He is actively exhibiting his work and has participated in over 300 group exhibitions and held more than 50 solo exhibitions across Europe, New Zealand, the USA, and Asia.

From public residencies in Rotorua to annual solo shows in Maui, Hawaii, Nemesh has inspired international audiences with his dynamic use of colour, layered abstraction, and emotionally resonant compositions.

His work reflects deep emotional truth, spiritual curiosity, and a belief in the interconnectedness of all things. For Nemesh, art is a healing tool – one that speaks directly to the heart and soul of the viewer.

Nemesh has presented his work in: Europe, Asia, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. His works are held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
